NGFS Phase 3 Scenario Explorer
Overview
This dataset [1] encompasses climate scenarios developed for the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), consisting of 83 central banks and supervisors along with 12 observers. NGFS aims to facilitate the integration of climate and environment-related risk management practices in the financial sector and promote mainstream finance for transitioning toward a sustainable economy. The scenarios, part of NGFS Workstream 3, are a collaborative effort involving an academic consortium from institutions like the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, University of Maryland, Climate Analytics, ETH Zurich, and the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. Generated through advanced integrated assessment models (IAMs) like GCAM, MESSAGEix-GLOBIOM, and REMIND-MAgPIE, the Phase 3 bespoke scenarios offer insights into global and regional mitigation costs, energy system transition characteristics, required investments, and the interplay between sustainable development pathways. Users can access technical documentation, including model descriptions, variables, and guidance, along with scenario presentation materials and a user guide on the NGFS portal.
